About the Potty Prognosis:
The idea for the Potty Prognosis came to me years ago, but I didn't do anything with it as I didn't have the courage or the time to pursue it. I actually started the Potty Prognosis because of a series of events over the last several months that have finally spurred me to action.
We've all used a public bathroom at some point in our lives. How many of us actually think about how we're exposed to various bugs when we use them. Certainly, I prefer not to! However, there are things that we can do and be aware of that can help protect our health and that of our communities.
My thought is that this site can be a place to get some good ideas, share some information, and advocate for better bathrooms. While there are many very expensive options, many times it doesn't take much to improve the bathroom experience and safety.
When I have encountered 1 & 2 Star bathrooms, I have to tell you that it sometimes causes me to question what other major-attention-to-detail-items they are not addressing. This is not to say that in every instance we encounter a 2 star bathroom that all is not well elsewhere. For all we know we could have caught them on an off day when the plumbing just decided to crap out (no pun intended) or something else happened. However, I would have to question what's going on with a place that has a 1 star or less bathroom. This is just unacceptable.
The plan is this:

The plan is this:
- Write some blog entries on information I think will be of you to you and continue to do observations of bathrooms in places I go and post pics for you to see, with some discussion on what we found. I will put these pics in a gallery on a separate page. We'll see where this takes us.
- Also, I feel strongly that everyone ought to have a better understanding of the basics of hand washing and how to avoid recontaminating your hands in a public bathroom as much as possible. There are many reasons for this which I will discuss in The Potty Blog.
- I also have some ideas for future plans... if you have any ideas you would like to see here or want to know more about, please let me know!
If you Feel There is an Issue at a Place that Handles Food:
I believe that if you find a deficiency in a place where food is handled, that you should bring it first to the attention of the manager or other person in charge. If you feel that you have gotten a response that does not address your concerns than I believe you should contact the Health Department with your concerns. On the contrary, if you find that a place that has flagrant and critical safety issues occurring such as those that our local investigative reporter Russ Ptacek reports on, I would do both and do it immediately.
As a member of the community I believe this is the right thing to do to protect my neighbors. We as consumers expect businesses that handle food to do it correctly in this country, and when reality isn't meeting the law, it's time to take action and tell someone who can hold them accountable to make sure they do. After all, what you're seeing may only be the actual tip of a very big iceberg.
